Easier the process, better the adherence. Why do we have processes? What is a process?
Process is a sequence. Sequence of tasks which when performed you get a defined output. The sequence or the task itself is part of the process to make sure we get the desired output by giving an optimum level of input. A task focuses on getting a part of the output, a defined sequence helps in getting the entire output. Certain tasks in a sequence might not directly help to get the desired output (can still get the desired output with out performing them) but they are needed to be done to fit the actions and/or the actual output in an ecosystem.
You knew this already didn’t you? I just wrote it again to share my understanding, validate my understanding. What are the problems we face? Adherence or to be specific, lack of adherence. If a task is skipped or performed at a different time in the sequence other than the defined time an alternate which is generally a lengthier task gets added to the sequence. This is to bring back order or to reduce the impact on the ecosystem.
Tasks get missed to be performed in a sequence or get missed to be performed at all, intentionally or unintentionally. If it’s intentional then the solution is training / awareness of making people understand that they are not alone in the system, there is more to what one can see or hear. If it’s unintentional the solution is introduction of corrective steps or control mechanism.
Constantly making a process simpler to follow, reducing the unnecessary bureaucracy, introduction of control mechanisms, sharing with people the rationale behind the tasks increases adherence. As the adherence increases, errors reduce, as the errors reduce wastage reduces and as the wastage reduces the system gets efficient. The words called out here are “simpler” (obviously), easier (not obviously stared) and awareness of the surrounding (I don’t know if it was obvious or not so obvious).
