Thin, tall, lean, muscular are some of the words used to describe good looking people, to avoid body shaming the fat are called healthy, short are called - I guess over a phone. Body shaming, calling a spade are all old fashioned and the fashion industry has also adopted the behaviour in them, one can almost pickup a trouser after trying on 15 different ones, get it shortened of the length, still buy a size smaller (XXL) to please the heart and walk away from the store straight into the next fast food joint, tiring it is to change 15 times and still buy the one that fits “not too bad”.
One does not have a full permission to live happily in the general public space upon being fat or short. Fat people do survive if they are tall or short people do survive if they are thin, being fat and short is a body shape which makes every other human being in the public space behave like Satan towards them. Does it matter? One transforms into an unacceptable body form over a period of time, being short is not what one realises over night, extra weight is gained over a few weeks or months, so the person towards whom everybody shows sympathy or rudely ignores eases into this space of “I’m happy the way I’m” slowly and hence it does matter but not really as much as ordering a sugarless beverage for dinner in a Trattoria. (just like the word)
If not for public opinion, designer clothing, it’s hard to understand why we need to be tall or muscular or lean or thin at all. Liberty!!! That’s the word which everyone wants, one wants to be fit enough to fit where they want to fit. If one wants an odd coloured trouser or T shirt which has odd words written on them for example slangs and body parts misspelt intentionally or unintentionally, they want it to be available. If you have noticed, half of any collection would be in medium and large sizes where as the other half of the collection has small, extra small, extra large etc all put together. long ago, I have personally witnessed people avoiding cream on top of their cold coffees so they can fit into a white French Connection shirt which was cut short to "FC" and prefixed to their friendly neighbours "UK". Going back to liberty, it’s not just the way you feel, it’s not just fitting into a common size, it’s pleasing to have sweet cream on coffee, Parmesan on pasta, take a day off from running, hug a friend which just shoulder and arms, take a flight and be happy to sit in economy, laugh only till the joke is funny, take a train if it’s raining instead of walking, take an elevator once in a while, the list can go on. That’s what we want to do, that’s why we need to be in the acceptable shape and that’s why we diet. We eat not to eat sometimes, we exercise to not exercise sometimes, we take the stairs to take the elevator sometimes, having an ice cream or a burger with cheese shouldn’t make you feel guilty. Liberty is that small zone between guilty and not guilty, the more we have it, happier we end up. It’s not about dieting, it’s about freedom.
